Awamori – The Okinawan Drink
Awamori is a traditional distilled alcoholic beverage exclusively from the Okinawa island group in the southwest of Japan. It is made from long-grain indica rice and undergoes a unique distillation process using black koji mold (Aspergillus awamori), which gives the drink its name. The production of Awamori dates back several centuries and has become an integral part of Okinawan culture.
